Today started out fine. We left El Centro, CA early for my 1pm chemo session in San Diego, CA because the only road HAD been closed by snow and abandoned cars last night, but the road was opened this morning, and we left early anyway to be sure.

About 30 miles out we found I-8 East was open but I-8 West (our direction) was not. I-8 West had been opened but then had been closed. There was a huge number of semi's, cars, etc, etc, waiting for the road to open.

We went back to our RV to check things on the Internet but soon figured out there was no way I could make my 1pm appointment. Even if the backup 30 miles out would clear in time, we could not assume the Border Patrol checkpoint would be closed, and THAT backup would be one lane not two, and take much too much time to clear. I called and canceled my appointment and rescheduled one for 3/29.

We then decided to take advantage of a "one week window" in the treatment and go to the San Francisco Bay Area to visit relatives. We got as far as Mojave, CA this first day - 287 miles - almost half way there - better than I expected since we left at 11:45am. We'll get an earlier start tomorrow and should be in Pleasanton, CA long before dark. Mojave to Pleasanton was 318 miles - a total of 605 miles.

"NO DEAL BASICALLY means that if we can't find a solution that wold benefit us both, we agree to disagree agreeably--No Deal. No expectations have been created, no performance contracts established. I don't hire you or we don't take on a particular assignment together because it's obvious that our values or our goals are going in opposite directions. It is so much better to realize this up front instead of downstream when expectations have been created and both parties have been disillusioned.
When you have No Deal as an option in your mind, you feel liberated because you have no need to manipulate people, to push your own agenda, to drive for what you want. You can be open. You can really try to understand the deeper issues underlying the positions."
