12/20/09 - It's Almost Christmas! Click to add your comment Like many cities across the United States, the relatively small town of El Centro has seen foreclosures, lost jobs and stores and businesses that have gone "belly up". One of the offshoots of this poor economy is the fact that there are many folks just struggling to make it day by day. Sunbeam RV Park has participated in the Salvation Army's "Toys for Tots" for many years, and this year was no exception. To help foster interest in the Salvation Army's efforts to give every needy kid a toy, Sunbeam has what is called an "Angel Tree". Little paper "angels" with the name of a child, the child's sex, and shoe and clothing sizes are listed. Purchasing a toy for each child is the aim of the Angel Tree. A few weeks ago our friend Don (the Sunbeam contact with the S.A.) added 75 more "angels". That's when we decided that we'd do something new this year. Usually we give each of our twelve grandkids a check for Christmas so they can purchase whatever they want. This year we deducted $25 from the check and purchased a gift for a needy child in the grandchild's name. We took a picture of the toy and attached a picture of the toy in a "Christmas letter" to each grandchild. We hope they'll be glad to be part of the operation "Angel Tree". Yesterday the Salvation Army came out in their truck to pick up the presents. Here's a picture of all the presents that had been collected - all the boxes are filled to the top with presents! ![]() Santa Claus did not show up - guess he's been a bit busy getting things out for the 25th. Elvis Presley stood in for Santa, but here's Don welcoming Santa's best reindeer, Rudolph. ![]() And here's Elvis entertaining the residents.... ![]() Rudolph was happy to see that the residents at Sunbeam Lake RV Park had collected 150 gifts for the boys and girls. It was a good feeling to know we helped get these boys and girls a toy. In addition to the yearly "Angel Tree" the residents here at Sunbeam, collect clothing and food for those less fortunate. So with our obligations to the community fulfilled, we look forward to the feast. We are eagerly awaiting a visit on 12/26 from Paul Jr., Miriam, Paul David and Juliana! | |

| "NO DEAL BASICALLY means that if we can't find a solution that wold benefit us both, we agree to disagree agreeably--No Deal. No expectations have been created, no performance contracts established. I don't hire you or we don't take on a particular assignment together because it's obvious that our values or our goals are going in opposite directions. It is so much better to realize this up front instead of downstream when expectations have been created and both parties have been disillusioned. When you have No Deal as an option in your mind, you feel liberated because you have no need to manipulate people, to push your own agenda, to drive for what you want. You can be open. You can really try to understand the deeper issues underlying the positions." (9/9) |
